Services
Using advanced diagnostic equipment, a Comprehensive Dry Eye Evaluation is performed by Dr. Brady to determine your individual ocular surface issues. Once a diagnosis is made, we will discuss a holistic treatment plan tailored to your specific risk factors. Our in-office treatments, paired with lifestyle modifications, will address the specific causes of your dry eye disease and improve your eye health, comfort, and vision. This is unique to every individual and The goal is to help these “sore eye” patients enjoy having healthier, better feeling, and more attractive looking eyes.
The Dry Eye Spa of West Michigan is committed to helping their patients achieve improved eye health and comfort! Relief is in sight!
Diagnostics
Ocular surface imaging and videography
The MediWorks Firefly imaging system is an advanced diagnostic tool that uses Infrared imaging technology to help diagnose dry eye disease. With this state-of-the-art technology, high-resolution images and detailed data about your eyelids, tear film, cornea and more is collected and analyzed. This tool can also image the meibomian glands, which allows doctors to observe their form and function. All of this is crucial for identifying the root cause of your dry eye disease.
Non-invasive TBUT
A diagnostic test used to assess the stability of the tear film on the surface of the eye without the use of drops or dyes.
Vital Dyes
Specialized dyes used in eyecare to visualize and assess various components of the eye, particularly the cornea and conjunctiva. They can help in diagnosing conditions such as dry eye syndrome, corneal abrasions, infections, and ocular surface disorders.
Corneal Sensitivity Testing
A clinical test used to evaluate the sensitivity of the cornea, which is the transparent front part of the eye. This test helps assess the functioning of the sensory nerves in the cornea which can be crucial in diagnosing and grading the severity of dry eye.
Comprehensive Systemic and Ocular Health Review
This review aims to provide a holistic view of a patient’s health, recognizing the interconnectedness of systemic and ocular conditions.
Treatments
Intense Pulsed Light
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy for dry eye is a non-invasive treatment that uses light to improve the function of the meibomian glands and reduces inflammation in the skin around the eyes and tear-producing structures. IPL promotes healing and reduces symptoms of redness and irritation. IPL can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and redness around the eyes, as it stimulates collagen production in the skin.
Radiofrequency
RF therapy uses low-energy radiofrequency waves that generate heat deep within the skin around the eyes. The heat stimulates the meibomian glands, helping to melt any thickened or clogged oils, while also stimulating the production of collagen and elastin—two proteins crucial for skin’s firmness, elasticity, and youthful appearance. Over time, this increased collagen production helps to tighten and lift the skin which can improve blink quality and improve eyelid function, while also reducing sagging and improving skin tone and texture.
Meibomian Gland Thermal Evacuation
A therapeutic procedure aimed at addressing meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye syndrome. A specialized device is used to deliver controlled heat to the eyelids. This heat helps to soften the hardened oils within the glands, making it easier to clear any blockages. This process can help restore normal oil secretion and improve the quality of the tear film.
Low-level light therapy (LLLT)
A non-invasive treatment option for dry eye syndrome that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity and promote healing. LLLT enhances cellular metabolism and reduces inflammation on the ocular surface.
BlephEx
Specifically designed to clean and exfoliate the eyelid margins, helping to remove debris, crusting, and excess oils that can contribute to inflammation and irritation. A micro-sponge to gently scrub the eyelid margins and lashes, exfoliating the lids and effectively removing biofilm (a layer of bacteria and debris) and other impurities.
Rinsada
Irrigation procedure that removes debris, allergens, and inflammatory substances from the eyelid margins and the surface of the eye, promoting better eye health. The device uses a saline solution to gently rinse the eyelids and the conjunctival sac, effectively flushing out irritants and debris.
Dilation & Irrigation
This procedure is primarily used to evaluate and clear any blockages in the nasolacrimal duct system, which drains tears from the eyes into the nasal cavity. It aims to relieve symptoms associated with tear duct obstructions, such as excessive tearing (epiphora) or chronic eye irritation.
Punctal Plugs
Small plugs that block the tear drainage ducts (puncta) in the eyelids. This helps to retain moisture on the surface of the eye, providing relief from dryness and irritation.
Topical Drop Therapy
Prescription drops may be recommended to enhance tear production or reduce inflammation. The use of artificial tears or lubricating eye drops to alleviate symptoms can also be addressed. These drops aim to supplement the natural tear film, providing moisture, reducing irritation, and improving comfort.
Signature Services
A holistic dry eye management plan takes a comprehensive approach to treating dry eyes by addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes. This plan often combines lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, environmental adjustments, and complementary therapies alongside traditional treatments.
